Rainbow Flag Award

We are excited to have been chosen to participate in the Rainbow Flag Award, an initiative led by The Proud Trust.

The Rainbow Flag Award is a quality assurance framework for all schools and colleges, focusing on LGBT+, (lesbian, gay, bisexual, Trans, plus other related identities), inclusion and visibility. The Rainbow Flag Award encourages a whole organisation approach to LGBT+ inclusion, as well as developing strategies to combat homophobic, biphobic and transphobic, (HBT), bullying.

We have been chosen to take part due to our commitment to LGBT+ issues in education and our community. Schools taking part want to work together to improve the lives of all the young people that we work with, as well as the LGBT+ young people in our care, those from LGBT+ families, and LGBT+ staff members.

Through a process of self-assessment and ongoing monitoring and feedback, schools and colleges are offered a variety of interventions, helping them meet set standards in each of the following areas: skilled teacher, supportive governors and parents, effective policies, inclusive curriculum, pastoral support and pupil voice.

Over the coming months we have chosen to focus on the inclusive curriculum and pupil voice standards. Staff have recently undergone training for the skilled teacher strand, and we are in the process of updating policies to ensure they are fully inclusive.

We are looking forward to working with The Proud Trust and welcome your support with this initiative. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.
